South Belfast Young Conquerors

South Belfast was next on the agenda for the band. The parade hosted by South Belfast Young Conquerors takes place on the last Saturday in July during the afternoon.

The parade takes you around the south side of the city, from Donegal Avenue, to Sandy Row, then onto the Donegal Road and finishing up again on Donegal Avenue.

With this being the second week of the July fortnight, the band again would be struggling for big numbers in the ranks. But the outcome wasn’t too bad, we were able to parade with 4 girls in the colour party, 7 drummers, cutter and duff on the bass drum and cymbals and 21 fluters.

A good mix of youth and experience again on parade, new tunes from the week before again going well, even Warren and Paul’s new start to Scots Quarter went down a treat as did the Great Escape. Think the Drum Corps missed the talents of JT.

The crowds were bigger this year as they were rather poor as previous two years for some reason, as this parade is in good areas to see the bands, and especially as they always seem to get a real summers day for the parade aswell.

The band stopped outside the rangers bar and played to the crowd, Yee Haa getting the feet tapping and the older audience singing.

Few of the bands that I managed to see on the day included Pride of the Shore, Bessbrook True Blues, Moneyslane, Pride of the Hill Rathfriland, Kilcluney Volunteers and Clogher Protestant Boys, all of whom were performing to their usual standards and doing well and able to put out a good size band.

Not too sure of the results yet, but will post them on the report as soon as they area made available.
