Goldsprings
Saturday 19th July saw the band back on the road parading again for the first time since the 12th July.
With this being the holiday season, we weren’t sure of how much of a band we would have available.
With quite a lot of members on holiday and others unavailable, it was left to a few of the older members and quite a lot of younger members to make up the band for the night, even the drum corps was badly hit as all senior players bar two were unavailable.
The band has been attending Goldsprings parade for the past four years now, and enjoy the night out in the small County Down town.
The start point has a good crowd around to cheer on the bands, then you have a short bit which leads you into the town were you can get a few of your newer tunes practiced without any pressure.
The town itself is packed with spectators and this is the area for the judges to score the bands for the prizes at the end of the night. After exiting the square, its onto the end point via the bridge. The bridge is the place for the bands to entertain the crowds, and the bands usually respond by playing a few of their tunes. Our own band played a few and was warmly received by the people.
The band paraded tonight with 3 flags, Craig on the mace, 7 drummers, Cutter on the Bass and 19 flutes. Mostly a youthful band yet again, with the new tunes all getting a run out. The Adjutant and Young May Moon being the two tunes of the night.
The band was awarded 5 first places tonight:
1st Drum Major
1st Drum Corps
1st Melody Flute
1st Lead Tip
Best Overall
