Drumderg Loyalists Keady

Friday 20th June 2008 saw the band make the journey to Drumderg Loyalists Keady on the border of South Armagh.

Although it’s only parading a few hundred yards down a country road, it’s the principle of the decision and one that the band thinks is just right. So well done to Drumderg for not giving in to numerous calls to shift the parade, (as a member in our band says, ‘its one for the cause’)

Drumderg are a large Blood n Thunder band, with over 60 members and usually have a good big band out at every parade. After recently purchasing new uniforms, which I personally think stand out from others and look top notch, they have continued to move on with their own style of Blood n Thunder with good tunes, clean and crisp fluting along with an excellent Drum Corps.

Drumderg were rewarded with a large turnout of band so the night with around 40 or so with all categories on show, good selection of melody and blood n thunder especially on show. Another good night weather wise for parading, something which I hope continues for the rest of the band season.

Our own band paraded tonight with 7 in the Colour Party, 11 in the Drum Corps, 2 Bass Drummers, Willy John on the Mace, Nigel on the cymbals and around 21 flutes, mainly made up of younger ones again with a few of the older ones un able to make it.

Thought the band was good tonight, not the best performance, but it can’t be top notch every parade. Hub of the North again was good, along with the Adjutant and Yee Haa and the ever improving Scotch Quarter.

Never really saw many bands parading, except for Omagh Protestant Boys and Skeogh, who were both playing up to their usual standards.

But a big well done to Drumderg on a well run parade.

The band was awarded the following places:

3rd Colour Party

1st Drum Major

1st Drum Corps

2nd Marching and Discipline

2nd Bass Drum

2nd Melody

3rd Best Overall
